National Scholarships Opportunities
Here are a few examples of scholarships and fellowships for which we provide institutional support:
Barry S. Goldwater Scholarship: Three hundred scholarships each worth $7,500 for outstanding sophomores and juniors who have outstanding potential and intend to pursue careers in mathematics, engineering, or the natural sciences.
UM Faculty Rep: Robert L. Infantino, Jr.
Boren-National Security Education Program: Over two hundred scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students to study abroad in selected countries. This scholarship has a government service requirement.

Benjamin Gilman International Scholarship: Study abroad program for Pell Grant eligible undergraduate students worth up to $5,000.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships: Scholarships for graduating seniors and graduates to pursue taught or research courses of postgraduate study in a wide variety of fields in science, humanities, and the social sciences at the University of Cambridge.
U.S. Fulbright Grants: Over one thousand scholarships for recent B.S./B.A. graduates, master's and doctoral candidates for one year (study, teaching, or research) opportunities for personal development and international experience. UM Faculty Rep: Jonathan Auerbach
Fannie and John Hertz Foundation Graduate Fellowship: Twenty 5-year graduate fellowships are offered to graduating seniors and graduates in the applied physical sciences, tenable at 40 schools.
Freeman Awards for Study in Asia
Study abroad program for Pell Grant eligible undergraduate students for summer, semester or year long programs in Asia.UM Faculty Rep: Rebecca Schendell
Harry S. Truman Scholarship: Sixty to eighty $30,000 scholarships for juniors, covering academic expenses for graduate school. For students with an outstanding capacity for public service who want to make a difference in society.

Jacob Javits Fellowship: Seventy-five fellowships each worth over $30,000 a year for graduating seniors and graduates to study in the humanities, social sciences, and the arts.
UM Faculty Rep: Scott Wolpert
Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Fellowship: Graduate scholarships worth up to $50,000 a year for up to six years of study for extraordinary graduating seniors and alumni in any field. Applicants should be Pell Grant eligible.

James Madison Graduate Fellowships: $24,000 fellowships for graduating seniors and graduates to study American History, Government, and Social Studies.

Marshall Scholarship: Forty-four full scholarships for graduating seniors and graduates for two to three years of study at any British university or business school.

George J. Mitchell Scholarships: Twelve scholarships for one year of graduate study at any Irish university. For graduating seniors and graduates.
UM Faculty Rep: Patrick O'Shea
Morris K. Udall Scholarship: Seventy-five scholarships for sophomores and juniors paying one year's academic expenses up to $5,000. These are for outstanding students who plan a career in environmental fields. Also for Native American sophomores and juniors in health care and tribal public policy.
UM Faculty Rep: Wendy Whittemore
Oxford/Cambridge - National Institutes of Health (NIH) Biomedical Research Scholars Program: Doctoral program for American students to pursue collaborative biomedical research projects between a laboratory at NIH and either the University of Oxford (England) or the University of Cambridge University(England) leading to a Ph.D. from that university.
National Science Foundation: Offers a wide variety of large programs for graduate fellowships, including a wide range in the physical, life, or social sciences and STEM education. Programs include the Graduate Research Fellowship Program and the SBE Dissertation Research Improvement Grants. Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship: The Pickering program seeks talented students in academic programs. Its goal is to attract outstanding students all ethnic, racial and social backgrounds who have an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service Career in the US Department of State. In exchange for two or three years of study, a Pickering Scholar must serve in the Foreign Service for three years.
Rhodes Scholarship: Thirty-two scholarships for graduating seniors and graduates for two or three years of study at Oxford in any field. The scholarship pays for academic fees plus an allowance to cover round trip fares and personal expenses.
UM Faculty Rep: Peter Levine
Rotary Peace Scholarships: Funding to support two-year master's-level degree program at one of the Rotary Centers for International Studies. Seventy scholarships are offered worldwide. Deadlines vary by Rotary district.
Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarships: One year study abroad opportunity in any discipline in over 160 countries worldwide. Deadlines vary by district.
Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans: Thirty scholarships for up to two years of graduate study for green card holders, naturalized citizens, or children of naturalized parents. Each scholarship provides $20,000 stipend and a tuition grant of half the tuition cost of the U.S. program attended by the Soros scholar.
Winston Churchill Scholarships: About eleven scholarships for graduating seniors or graduates, for one year of graduate study in the sciences at Churchill College at the University of Cambridge.
